I became the superintendent and curriculum director for Collins-Maxwell Schools in 2009. Before that, I was the middle school principal and curriculum director for three years. Collins-Maxwell is a rural school district of 500 students just 25 minutes northeast of Des Moines, the state capital. In addition to my job, I teach principal leadership courses for Viterbo University’s Iowa educational leadership program, am the president of Iowa ASCD, and am working on my dissertation through the University of Northern Iowa focusing on central office staff responsibilities. I am proud to be considered a systems thinker. I am married to an incredible wife, Amanda, and am a father to four children – Grace, Elle, Sam, and Claire.
My children, and other people’s children as my students, are the reason I try to identify and solve the issues in education.
